Panama City and Panama Canal
Well it has been a week on board the Viking Star. After a somewhat rough start with 9 Covid cases in quarantine and being denied access in Nicaragua for birding the issues have subsided. We had a beautiful day in Cozumel visiting a Maya religious site. The site was dedicated to the goddess of fertility, life, and family. The remains are quite different than those of Tulum as the altars are lower and was more sedate.
We had a wonderful tour of Panama City's "inner city", their historic district, we had a beautiful day to sail through the Panama Canal. Last night's dinner was special for New Year's Eve so Jeff was so happy to have lobster thermador. I had the GF porchini mushroom risotto with Parmesan Reggianno cheese. Wine of course. Introduced to a new wine from Overstone winery Pinot Noir, very good. We will have today and tomorrow at sea and then be in Cabo San Lucas, then sail to LA. We will have a couple of tours and then around 600 of us will hopefully spend 120+ days visiting cities. The final itinerary is not available to us until the 10th.
There is a group of ladies who meet on sea days to hand sew or knit. We have a good time and share interests and stories. The lectures have been good but the entertainment has been fantastic. We have had a fiddler, Juliette Primrose, who is awesome. She was lead violinist with Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance for a number of years. She has presented twice plus the Viking musicians are quite good.
So far we are truly enjoying our adventure.
Glad Covid has decreased on board!
