Week Two of World Cruise

 Well it has been an interesting week. We visited Costa Rica after the Panama Canal. We had a beautiful day there as we went to the small town of Esparza outside of Puntarenas. It is a very old town but much of it was burned out in the early 1900s. Since it was a Sunday we could not go to the museum but we could see the old church but only pictures from the doorway as mass was in progress. The town is very proud of their heritage and presented a number of dances in their traditional costumes. The young ladies were very good and the music was excellent. Here are come pictures from that trip.







We then had 4 days at sea to reach Cabo San Lucas. Jeff did get some amazing bird shots and we visited the town of San Jose del Cabo,which is the sister city of Cabo San Lucas. The small town square boasts a pink church, which is no longer pink, and beautiful art work (I will post the art later as Jeff forgot to air drop them to me).

We went into Cabo San Jose outside of San Lucas. Beautiful church and there was a wonderful outdoor art display. The artist gets all his materials from scrap yards and metal shops.






We found out today that the first 2/3rds of our cruise is now different. We were cancelled out of Hawaii, Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, Indonesia and then India.

We are now going south along the west coast of Central and South Americas. Returning to Cabo, Puntarenas and Panama City with Puerto Vallarta thrown in. Then to Santiago, Puerto Montt, Amalia Glacier in Chile then around Cape Horn. We then sail to Uruguay visiting Montevideo and Punta del Este. 

Then to Cape Verde, Madeira and multiple stops in the Mediterranean. We do go to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and then back to Egypt and the rest of the original itinerary. Here is our new map.


Now hope to get to a store to grab a sweatshirt and maybe jeans. Jeff packed warmer clothes I did not.

    I thought I had read this one but Not. Gary had shown me the new itinerary so I must have thought that was it! Lol! I do like the new itinerary!

 This past week we traversed the Suez Canal and the Red Sea to arrive in Saudi Arabia. Culture shock was the feeling of the week. We will being sailing to Aqaba, Jordan tonight and will arrive there on Sunday. After two days we will return to the Mediterranean Sea via the Canal heading to Egypt.  The Suez Canal is really just a man-made water passage. Most canals require locks to raise and lower the boat/ships to connect two bodies of water. This canal has no locks as the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea are at the same sea level. Only two lakes are used to switch which direction is being traversed at which time. We lucked out as Viking Star was the lead vessel heading south on the canal. There was a long line of ships behind us in the first passage but some switch-up in the second passage. I was amazed at the number of cities along this passage way. Week 17 Israel: Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Nazareth, Sea of Galilee, Caesarea, Tel-Aviv, and Jaffa PLUS

Day 1 We arrived in Israel on April 10 but had to anchor off shore as they had to send their team of Covid testers to test everyone on board. We passed 100% crew and passengers Covid free.  We also had 100% valid Israeli Visa acceptance.  The port was Ashdod, a shipping port in southern Israel. We had one excursion there as we travelled to Jerusalem and Bethlehem.  I wanted to see as much of the Holy Land as possible since we were in Israel. The people were so wonderful everywhere we went. We had no issues associated with these cities and peoples. We had a Muslim, Jewish, Palestinian Catholic, and a non-practicing Jewish guides. All very knowledgeable and not denigrating any other religion. They work together to keep the nation going. Never had a safety concern at any point in time. Week 18 Sorento, Ostia, and Tuscany Italy with Monte Carlo, Monaco

 Wow, these were 4 busy days! Yes, we had long trips in Italy but with confusion on booking I did not get my trip to Nice and Matisse when we were in Monaco.  I was really upset by that but "it is what it is".  I did tell them that their system for booking has a major flaw in it and said it would be an easy fix in their database. The young man that is head of the Explorer's Desk agreed with me and told me who to talk to as they aren't listening to him. Poor guy has to listen to the irate passengers.   Not only was I stressed about that and being tired, we are having major problems with the computer. Jeff has overloaded it with pictures and, when I made the external drive I bought as the backup, he can edit pictures but not send them out to me for this or any posting.  First thing on Tuesday the 10th will be ordering a new computer.
