We will set sail on our world cruise on December 24, 2021 on the Viking Star. We will try to post every Saturday of our trip. If all goes well, we return to Ohio on May 9, 2022.

Day 1 We arrived in Israel on April 10 but had to anchor off shore as they had to send their team of Covid testers to test everyone on board. We passed 100% crew and passengers Covid free.  We also had 100% valid Israeli Visa acceptance.  The port was Ashdod, a shipping port in southern Israel. We had one excursion there as we travelled to Jerusalem and Bethlehem.  I wanted to see as much of the Holy Land as possible since we were in Israel. The people were so wonderful everywhere we went. We had no issues associated with these cities and peoples. We had a Muslim, Jewish, Palestinian Catholic, and a non-practicing Jewish guides. All very knowledgeable and not denigrating any other religion. They work together to keep the nation going. Never had a safety concern at any point in time. We saw more military/security in Saudi Arabia and Egypt than we did in Israel. The food was delicious and often easier to eat gluten-free than most other places. I have fallen in love with Tu...

Hello and we hope you had a very Merry Christmas. We were one of the lucky ones when flying out of CLE on Friday as our flight left on time and arrived in Miami 40 minutes early. Our Viking Representative was waiting at the baggage check area and our bags were one of the first ones off the plane. We then were taken to the ship terminal in Ft. Lauderdale. There we had to wait until they opened at 10 am. We then began the process of checking in via Florida rules and Viking protocol. Newly added that morning was another PCR test which had to be negative prior to boarding the Viking Star. Crazy as it was a last minute rule change and everyone was trying to figure out a process. All our pre-shipped luggage arrived as well. By 12:15 we were ready to have lunch. After the safety video was viewed we walked around the ship to see the beautiful Christmas decorations and to catch our breath after being up at 3 am to catch our flight. Week 15 Suez Canal, Red Sea, Jeddah and Yanbu al-Bahr, Saudi Arabia

 This past week we traversed the Suez Canal and the Red Sea to arrive in Saudi Arabia. Culture shock was the feeling of the week. We will being sailing to Aqaba, Jordan tonight and will arrive there on Sunday. After two days we will return to the Mediterranean Sea via the Canal heading to Egypt.  The Suez Canal is really just a man-made water passage. Most canals require locks to raise and lower the boat/ships to connect two bodies of water. This canal has no locks as the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea are at the same sea level. Only two lakes are used to switch which direction is being traversed at which time. We lucked out as Viking Star was the lead vessel heading south on the canal. There was a long line of ships behind us in the first passage but some switch-up in the second passage. I was amazed at the number of cities along this passage way.
